Day 3 Ventura

We went to the harbor and Visitor center in Ventura, had lunch. In a sea side market and grill. Then off to the Cross on the Hill that dates back to the original Mission in the late 1790's. It is perched on the hill overlooking the Ventura coast line from there you can see the Channel Islands and all the way down to Oxnard (weather permitting). The Mission of San Buenaventura was founded and dedicated by Father Junipero-Serra. This is the last of the nine he personally founded building started in1795 and he dedicated the mission in 1809. Chris talked to the current pastor who then gave us a tour of the alter and the Baptistry with it's 1700's copper baptismal fount.
Dinner back at Bob and Carolyn's was a joyful reunion with a Georgetown classmate who is from the area. Dennis Casey Brown was Chris's date at the Johnson Presidential Ball after the 1964 election. The evening was wonderful opportunity to catch up with friends.
