Day 3 Ventura

We went to the harbor and Visitor center in Ventura, had lunch. In a sea side market and grill. Then off to the Cross on the Hill that dates back to the original Mission in the late 1790's. It is perched on the hill overlooking the Ventura coast line from there you can see the Channel Islands and all the way down to Oxnard (weather permitting). The Mission of San Buenaventura was founded and dedicated by Father Junipero-Serra. This is the last of the nine he personally founded building started in1795 and he dedicated the mission in 1809. Chris talked to the current pastor who then gave us a tour of the alter and the Baptistry with it's 1700's copper baptismal fount.
Dinner back at Bob and Carolyn's was a joyful reunion with a Georgetown classmate who is from the area. Dennis Casey Brown was Chris's date at the Johnson Presidential Ball after the 1964 election. The evening was wonderful opportunity to catch up with friends.

Photos from Reagan Library & Ojai

Crabby and Crabette meet President and Nancy Reagan.‏

Chris at her Inaugural stage at Reagan Museum.  ‏

Crabby loved the orange ice cream, just like the type Lewnes served years ago! Called Ojai Orange made from local oranges.

Post Office in Ojai.  The entire down town is in this period architecture, very scenic.

The Reagan Presidential Library and Ojai

We got up and had a relaxing morning with Bob and Carolyn and then drove to Simi Valley to visit the POTUS site. Enjoyed a terrific and unbelievably inexpensive lunch an Italian place near the library. Then spent several hours in the museum/library/shrine to the former President. Very well done lots of interactive stuff and some great old pictures and film. They have the actual 707( tail number 27000)that RWR used as Air Force One for his entire 8 year term in the museum and it is open to walk thru.
Chris and I were reminded that we took an older version of that plane (25000) o China in 1980 with a Congressional delegation. Great old memories and a spectacular Exhibit!
Then off to Ojai a quaint artsy town in a beautiful valley. After a refreshing ice-cream break
We drove back to Oxnard to relax and wait for Abby to return from her traumatic first day at obedience school we enjoyed IN-N-OUT BURGERS - Chris's first experience.
Just struck me that food seems to be a major focus of this blog and we have not mentioned the wonderful California wines we have enjoyed.
